Hi everyone! Hope this summer is treating you and your dog(s) well! You will notice a meeting has been scheduled for next weekend. We are also going to schedule out dates for August, September and October, so check the calendar for times. We need to address a few issues, so please read on about some matters that affect our group.
1. We have received sponsorship from a company called FreshPet! FreshPet understands what it is to want the best thing for your furry friend and would like to support fellow dog lovers. After years of working in the traditional pet food industry, they asked themselves: Is dry kibble really the best thing for dogs? They ended up creating a line of truly healthy, fresh and delicious food for dogs, new Freshpet Select and Deli Fresh refrigerated foods. So, they will pay part of our group fees for the next 3 months and give us samples, coupons, etc... It should be interesting! More details to come after 7/16/09.
2. There has been a lot of concern about the aggression level at the last few meets. We want to go over the rules of our group and make sure everyone understands what is expected of them and their dog at our meets. We meet at public locations. We as the organizers can not ban owners and dogs from attending our meet-ups. We can request that people take personal responsibility for their dog's behavior and use common sense. Do you have a dog that is consistently aggressive? Do you have an in tact male that plays rough? Do you have a young dog who can not defend itself when playing with older, stronger dogs? If so, it might be appropriate for you to leave your dog at home. If you are attempting to socialize a dog with anxiety issues, bring your dog on leash and be prepared to be actively involved in the play date. If fights keep popping up, be prepared to remove your dog from the meet. Do not discipline another person's dog. Do be prepared to discipline your own. Come prepared to clean up after your dog as well. As for your own behavior, remember that our meets should be family friendly. Remember that we share a love of Boxers!
3. When we became the meet-up organizers, we did so to save the group from disappearing. When the old organizer resigned, Meetup.com gave the group 30 days to find someone to take over or the group would dissolve. With 3 days left, we took the plunge and agreed to take over this volunteer position. For the most part, this has been effortless and a lot of fun. Recently, as our demands at work and home have increased, it has become one of the things at the bottom of our list. For this, we apologize! We want this group to run smoothly and get the attention to detail that it sometimes requires. Our apologies to those of you who have sent suggestions or comments that have gone without response. Surely you all understand how "life"can happen. Lately, we are lucky to spend some time with our (human) kids before bed time, let alone to sit down and maintain a website!
At this time, we would like to give notice that we will be stepping down from this organizer position at the end of October. We are hoping someone with more free time (and talent!) will step up to fill our shoes. Please let us know if you are interested and we can review what the position entails. We are planning on scheduling the next few months ahead of time and will be taking the suggestions you have provided for new parks you would like to try. We may or may not be present each time. Our assistant organizer Sara may be present and therefore of help, in our absence. Meet-up fees can be paid to us or Sara, or can be paid online via Amazon and Paypal. If you wish to prepay for a few months at a time, make a one time donation and it will be noted on your profile. Thank you for your patience and understanding! We hope things will go smoothly in the next few months.
