Has anyone had any experiences around town with training? We want to take our new puppy to puppy class and found a 4 week class at the dog park off JTB. Just wondering if anyone has tried it.

I took our white boxer Jolie there. I would not recommend it. She was around six monthes old at the time and she would have rather play with the other dogs she saw than listen to the class. The class was also very impersonal and the instructor never bothered to learn our dogs name or our name. She would call them all "pup". My dog answers to "jolie" not "pup". So I think that was a bit of confusion it self. Also, our class was a 9am on saturday and she would call after 10pm to say that it was cancelled. Our class was 8 weeks and she missed or rescheduled 3 of the weeks once. All and all I think you could do better else where. I could have learned what she tought us from reading it on the internet. If you have any questions feel free to email me: maekwai@hotmail.com.

If I would say anything about training the biggest thing is consistence.
Figure out your ground rules and stick to them.. If you don't want the dogs on the furniture.. do not hold them while on the furniture... If you want them to eat at a certain time during the day put down the food for 30 mins and then pick it up.. after being hungry once or twice they figure out to eat.

Good luck with the training and remember you can always ask on this board.. I'm sure SOMEONE if not EVERYONE has had the same issues with their boxers!biggrin

Oh, and trust me on this one.. get a crate-- they don't want to tear things up and be bad.. they really don't. They just can't help themselves for the first 2 years of their life.

I have been lucky and my boxers have not torn many things up, but yes a crate is the best investment you can make for your boxer. Mine both love theirs and go in there on their own.
