Okay, we need to see how y'all got through this! We have our new puppy (9 weeks old) and we are keeping him in his create. We do let him out to play and eat and he will fall asleep on the patio or on a beanbag. Until today we have aloud this to happen.

For the last 2 nights when he wakes up to potty he will not go back to sleep in the create! He will bark, howl, and make all sorts of nosies in an effort to get released. We have not given in, but we have not slept very much either.

Any advise?

Thanks!!

HA yes I do have advice. Your sleep is more important than anything. Jager used to do the same crap.

First question: is the crate in view of your bed? Can the puppy see you when he is in the crate? Try that if it is not.

If that doesnt work, he may be happy enough to sleep next to your bed. Make a barricade or put him in a laundry basket so he can't wander around at night.

As soon as I did that with Jager, no more barking, crying, whining.....you just need to make sure he cant wander around.

Ditto to what Dan said.. puppy is lonely, cold, and scared.. when you go to let her out.. put a towel in the dryer to warm it up.. then put her and the big warm towel in the bed. That used to help Ginger stop when she was a baby. She just needed a warm spot to comfort her and she was fine.

Good job on sticking to your guns and enforcing the ground rules from day one. Remember a puppy is a baby, there will be the sleepless nights and the emergency visits to the doctor. Sounds like so far you guys are doing an excellent job. Hope our advice helps!

We do have the create in our room and in sight of the bed. We have started putting him in the create whenever he wants to rest. Prior to Saturday we would let him sleep wherever he dropped which was normally a bean bag or on the patio. This seems to have helped a lot. He will still fuss a little but then calms down.

I will try the warm towel. He was shivering this morning when we cam back in. I also threw in one of my tee shirts so he can smell me.

Work in progress!

Thanks for all the advise.

Put the pup in a different room other than where you are and put a light sheet over the crate. leave what ever side of the crate that faces the wall open so the pup will still have ventilation. A sheet inside the crate may also help.

I only put my boxer in a crate when we leave the house, if I'm home then he is not crated. I think if something happens in the middle of the night I don't want my dog crated so he can go check it out himself, that's why I got him.

IRTT: Tamor is still a puppy (6 months) and we just keep him next to us at night on the floor with his bed. He romes around at night in our room but I keep the door shut and tell him to "LAY DOWN" and he does of course with a big *SIGH*. When he was real small we got a stuffed toy and rubbed it all over his mom and when he cried we gave him that to help him feel relaxed and sleep. Good Luck.

HAHA yeah the SIGH never goes away. They will always let you know when they are doing something that they don't want to!!!!

Great idea about the stuffed animal.
